Trent Valley Sailing Club, has a rich history dating back to 1886 an is one of the oldest inland sailing clubs in the country. The Club initially set sail on a borrow pit at Lock Lane, Long Eaton, locally known as ‘Trent Lake’. This expansive 100-acre lake, created by the Midland Railway Company for gravel excavation, provided a picturesque setting for the Club’s early adventures.
However, sailing on Trent Lake was gradually disrupted as ash from the steam trains filled its waters, rendering it too shallow. Undeterred by this setback, the Club sought a new home and secured permission to moor on the opposite bank, a spot which it occupies to this day.
