Fancy getting out on the water before the season winds down? TVSC’s RYA Level One and Level Two training courses are running this September, led by our friendly, experienced instructors, with a full range of training boats available.
Level 1
Never sailed before? Level 1 is your starting point. You’ll get everything you need to head out on the water under supervision, learning to sail in all directions while building an awareness of launching and recovery. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to handle a boat confidently in light winds with supervision.
From here, you’ll be ready to progress onto Level 2 – covering rigging, launching, sailing in all directions, capsize recovery, and the safety knowledge every sailor needs.
Level 2
Level 2 builds on those foundations, assuming Level 1 standard in both practical ability and theory.
You’ll learn to rig a dinghy with minimal assistance, launch in a variety of wind directions, and master standard sailing manoeuvres, alongside the essential safety knowledge that underpins it all. Complete Level 2 and you’ll be equipped to sail independently and make sound decisions on and off the water in good conditions.
What to bring:
No specialist gear is required, but if you already own a buoyancy aid or wetsuit, bring it along as you’ll know it fits and feels comfortable. Otherwise, come in comfortable clothing and suitable footwear: wetsuit boots, wet shoes, or old trainers all work well. We’d steer clear of crocs, jeans, or flip flops. Don’t have kit of your own? We’ll provide a buoyancy aid for the course.
Sunscreen is a must, even on overcast September days, and a hat and sunglasses are worth packing if it’s bright out. Bring a water bottle too, we’ve got refill facilities on site.
Lunch is included, so there’s no need to bring your own.
