Learn to Sail on the River Trent at Trent Valley Sailing Club
Experience the thrill of sailing at Trent Valley Sailing Club, a picturesque haven on the River Trent in Long Eaton. Established as the second-oldest river club in England, we’re affiliated with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and offer a welcoming environment for sailors of all ages and experience levels.
No prior experience? No problem! We provide RYA courses and taster days to introduce you to the joys of sailing. Our courses are perfect for the whole family, with options for both adults and children.

RYA Level 1
What to Expect:
- Full-Day Course: Saturdays, starting at 9:00 AM with registration.
- Home-cooked lunch and refreshments are included.
- Small group sizes with personalized instruction from our experienced RYA-qualified instructors.
- No special gear needed – buoyancy aids are provided.
- By the end of the day: Learn how to rig a boat, gain confidence sailing on the water with our instructors, and understand basic sailing principles.
- Course completion: 5:00 PM.
RYA Level 2
Take your skills to the next level with this two-Saturday course. Upon completion, you’ll be able to:
- Helm a boat in light winds.
- Sail on a course and change direction (tacking and gybing).
- Understand basic weather and wind direction.
- Tie essential knots.
- Stop and control your boat’s speed.
On completion of this course you will be given a Log book and two certificates.
Junior Sailing
- Junior Camp (Ages 8-15): Our popular summer camp runs over a long weekend in July, offering a fun and supportive environment for children to learn to sail. (Spaces fill up quickly, so book early!)
- Friday Night Sailing (Under 16): During summer months, we offer an exciting Friday evening sailing program for younger sailors. (Limited spots available! Starts in April.)
