Training

As described in the section “Learn to Sail”, Trent Valley Sailing Club offers courses at two levels, according to the RYA’s National Sailing Scheme.

Level 1, Start Sailing, provides a short introduction to sailing for novices. By the end of the course, participants will have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge. In addition to on-water tuition in sailing techniques and manoeuvres, participants will also learn about rigging, launching and recovery of boats.

There will also be preliminary introduction to rope work.

Level 2, Basic Skills. Here the sailor will have achieved a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without an Instructor on board in light winds. There will be instruction in trimming the boat, capsize recovery, rules of the road and additional boat handling skills and leaving and returning to jetties, beaches and moorings.
