Club house built

The rich history of Trent Valley Sailing Club begins with the acquisition of ‘Mignon’, a houseboat that served as the Club’s initial headquarters. She played a pivotal role in the Club’s early years, providing a communal space for members to gather.

As the Club grew the houseboat became too small to provide adequate overnight accommodation for members. A larger fixed building was decided on as a solution. This led to the construction of the current clubhouse in 1907. The building was thoughtfully designed with a sturdy wooden frame and shiplap cladding, ensuring its durability and resilience against the elements.

To further protect the clubhouse from the potential threat of flooding, it was raised several feet off the ground on wooden piles. This innovative construction technique provided a safeguard against rising water levels, ensuring that the Club’s operations could continue uninterrupted.

The grand opening of the clubhouse was a momentous occasion, marked by a festive atmosphere and the presence of distinguished members dressed in top hats and tails. The event served as a testament to the Club’s growth and the dedication of its members in creating a lasting legacy for future generations of sailors.
